iSee Immersive Video Conferencing was without a doubt the most experimental service offered in the original project. The service could best be described as a merging of traditional Video Conference and virtual world platforms like "2nd Life". iSee however is a totally private, safe and branded domain for project schools only. It is built using the "Unity" gaming engine as a base. Entering an iSee environment sees participants represented not by a cartoon avatar but by a "tablet" containing their webcam video feed. Users can navigate the 3D space and interact with others and room media just as they would in a real room. The visual and auditory abilities of the service replicate any situation where humans gather to view and talk.
Obvious applications exist for situations where groups of students or teachers meet in small groups to discuss and problem solve and then report back to the larger audience. In 2014 & 2015 TtEDSC held a Virtual Art Show for participating schools. A 2014 video below shows some of the action.
We seek schools who would be interested in experimenting with the interface in 2016. We specifically seek schools who would like to experiment with language teaching and /or secure a virtual gallery space for the 2016 Art Show. Imagine your school community being able to virtually visit the gallery, admire the student works on the walls and interact with the students and teachers.
